Before anything is called unexplained, it is held against the ordinary things that look extraordinary through a targeting pod. Each entry defines the explanation, states what it does not establish, and links to the files where it was applied.

  • Balloons

    A lighter-than-air object — weather sonde, research payload, party or sky lantern — drifting with the wind rather than under power.

  • Birds and other wildlife

    Biological targets — single birds or flocks — resolved by an imaging sensor at a distance that removes scale cues.

  • Drones and unmanned aircraft

    A remotely piloted or autonomous aircraft, commercial or military, operating in the observed airspace.

  • Conventional aircraft

    A crewed aircraft — civil, military or state — misjudged for range, aspect or altitude.

    Sunlight reflected off orbiting hardware — single satellites, or the evenly spaced line of a recently launched Starlink batch.

  • Sensor and camera artifacts

    An object that exists in the imaging chain rather than in the sky: lens glare, bokeh, rolling shutter, gimbal rotation, compression blocking or dead-pixel tracking.

    Natural phenomena — sprites, refraction, temperature inversions, meteors and bright planets — recorded by an observer without a horizon reference.
