Phenomenon

Drones and unmanned aircraft

A remotely piloted or autonomous aircraft, commercial or military, operating in the observed airspace.

How it presents

  • Powered, deliberate flight with station-keeping and repeatable transits.
  • Rotor or propeller acoustics when audio exists.
  • Endurance and altitude consistent with a known airframe class.

What this explanation does not settle

Identifying a craft as a drone answers what it is, not whose it is. Unattributed drone activity over restricted airspace remains a security finding, not a closed case.
