Methodology
WAR converts a player's offensive, defensive, positional, and baserunning contributions into a single currency: wins above what a freely available replacement player would produce.
Formula. WAR = (wRAA + Def + BsR + PosAdj + Replacement) / 10, where wRAA = ((wOBA − .310) / 1.25) × PA. Positional adjustment and replacement are prorated to a 600 PA season. 10 runs ≈ 1 win.
Limits. This is a simplified season-total model. It does not park-adjust, league-adjust, or split pitching from position players. Use it to build intuition, not to arbitrate arguments.
